Collaboration introduces advanced planning and inflow management tools to optimize operations across multiple hydro assets
Vienna, 2nd February 2026 – HYDROGRID has been selected by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to implement its hydropower optimization platform in a smart-hydro digitalization project spanning two countries and several hydro plants. The initiative will be supported by Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (ENEE) in Honduras and Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) in Costa Rica, combining advanced analytics and digital tools to improve water management, production planning, and maintenance scheduling.
The project will deploy HYDROGRID Insight with features including inflow and reservoir forecasting, production planning, long term generation plan and opportunity cost calculation for maintenance planning. The goal: maximize generation uptime and efficiency through smarter, data-driven decisions.
This collaboration demonstrates how digitalization can strengthen hydropower’s role in sustainable development by enabling operators to make informed decisions that reduce waste, improve reliability, and support long-term planning.
“This pilot is about more than technology. It’s about building smarter systems that strengthen hydropower’s role in sustainable development. By integrating digital tools into planning and operations, Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica and Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad can improve efficiency, reduce waste, and deliver reliable clean energy to millions.”

Digitalization at Scale: How It Elevates Operations
· Optimize inflow utilization: Advanced forecasting helps operators make the most of every cubic meter of water.
· Plan maintenance intelligently: estimating revenue losses helps to aligns interventions with low-value windows.
· Enable long term foresight: Integrated planning tools support long-term strategies and operational resilience.
“We’re proud to collaborate with IDB on a project that demonstrates how digitalization can transform hydropower performance. Combining robust infrastructure with advanced analytics unlocks efficiency gains and supports long-term sustainability goals.”
